Long-distance move from Swanton, VT to Montgomery, TX

Terrible and Expensive Mistake in Hiring This Company

In February of this year, 2023, our house was sold with a closing date of May 5th and my wife and I made arrangements with Chase Moving and Storage of Essex Junction to have our household goods moved to Texas from Vermont via Wheaton Moving and Storage, and paid their required 30% ($4277) deposit toward the move. In mid-April there was an issue in the sale of the house that was no fault of our own which terminated it and the house was returned active listing. We immediately told Chase (Kevin) that we would have to reschedule to which he stated that it would not be a problem and to let him know when new pack and pick up dates were available.

We contacted them today, 6/13/2023, and provided them with new dates. After receiving the new quote, we were told that by changing the dates, we had forfeited the $4277 deposit from the “previous” contract and another 30% deposit would be required. This “date-change” forfeiture was never mentioned when we paid the deposit or when we advised that we needed to change the dates but there was a clause hidden deep in their Move Booking Paperwork that we overlooked which states: “LIQUIDATED DAMAGES: We will collect a non-refundable retainer fee equal to 30% of your estimated charges at the time of booking any services with Chase Moving and Storage”. This statement provides no specifics and one assumes that loss of deposit would apply in your cancelling the contract, not just changing service dates.

Clearly, we made a terrible (and very expensive) mistake in hiring them, but have now hired a reputable and highly-rated Moving and Storage company in Burlington which did not require a deposit at all. If you feel the need to hire Chase Moving and Storage, make sure you understand, because they will not tell you, that you will forfeit your 30% deposit for any changes whatsoever to your pack and pick up dates, apparently, no matter what the reason. We contacted Wheaton Moving and Storage’s corporate headquarters for their input and were told someone would contact us, but they never did, so apparently, they condone this practice.

Long-distance move from Essex Junction, VT to Pompano Beach, FL

Horrible Experience

I moved from VT to FL and wanted to use a recognized mover so I went with Allied. Chase Moving was their agent in VT. They packed my belongings very hurriedly and then put them on a truck that was not an Allied trailer and was hauled to FL by an independent driver. When they arrived in FL, important portions of the shipment were left in VT and didn't arrive in FL for two weeks. When they finally arrived there were still pieces missing and I can not get a call back from what Chase calls customer service. Would never use either Chase or Allied for a future move.

Made Our Move Easy.

We were planning a cross-country move. They were very easy to work with. Arrived when they said they would. We were given a two week window for our belongings to arrive to our new home and they arrived in just four days. Excellent service!

Long-distance move from Williston, VT to Cary, IL

Absolute nightmare moving compny

We used Allied Chase moving and storage for a move from Vermont to Illinois. They were more expensive than the local quote we received but their delivery window was better so we decided to use the more well known "Allied". A huge mistake and I am kicking myself for not checking the better business bureau for Allied Van Lines. They had our belonging for a full month and were dismissive of our calls about reimbursement for necessities while we had no belongings and were living in an empty house. Upon delivery we had thousands of dollars of damaged goods as well as furniture and accessories in our shipment that didn't belong to us. When we looked over the bill which they charged in full, we saw that they charged us for extra storage time while we waited for our delivery which was 3 weeks late! They are extremely slow in fixing broken items and are yet to compensate us for items that couldn't be repaired. We have had a living room full of broken furniture and belongings for 2 months! It is impossible to reach anyone at Allied to discuss. They seem to have decided they can get away with scamming their customers and there is no recourse against such a large company as Sirva Worldwide which is the parent company of Allied and Alliance relocation. This scratches the surface of the horrific treatment we have received from Allied Chase moving and storage. RUN don't walk away from this company. They are complete crooks.

Long-distance move from Charlotte, VT to Salt Lake City, UT

We wish we had never picked Chase Moving & Storage

Our experience was also a nightmare. Very similar to all the other bad reviews. We moved from VT to Utah. Once we started questioning things, they no longer were available to speak by phone just cryptic emails if any. Our belongings and furniture looked like it was delivered in a cement truck. Furniture just piled on top of each other, boxes that had one piece of newspaper for padding...it was appalling, and they charged a lot for doing a horrible job. They did not even take the legs off the grand piano, even though they assured us they had experience in moving such pieces. Allied, the parent company did not seem to care either. I don't enjoy giving bad reviews but if I can save one person from the stress and sadness we went through then it was worth it. Run the other way. I honestly have never dealt with a company that was so bad and unapologetic.
